Ayanda Nomaswazi Shabalala
Visiting International Researcher
Dr. Ayanda Shabalala is a Senior Lecturer in Water Management and Programme Leader for Environmental Sciences at the University of Mpumalanga, South Africa. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Johannesburg and specializes in water quality, wastewater treatment, acid mine drainage remediation, and sustainable environmental management. She joined the MATTER research group at UNBC as a visiting scholar in Fall 2026, focusing on the valorization of agricultural and forestry biomass residues into biochar and their physicochemical characterization for potential environmental applications. Her visit aimed to strengthen international research collaboration in sustainable materials, waste valorization, and environmental remediation.
